Here shows massive weardown of a gear teeth due to incorrect lubricant selection.
At a recent follow-up trip, Tecsia Lubricants sent its team of Certified Lubrication Specialists (CLS) to an iron making plant in Malaysia. The objective was to investigate gear damage at the iron ore mixer and pelletizer.

It was found that the gears had a lot of wear patterns and scuffing. Efforts to grind it off were futile as the gear teeth material thinned out, and might result in breakage.  The root cause of the problem was due to insufficient and improper lubrication. Moreover, the maintenance engineers used a brand of grease that did not adhere well to the gear teeth surfaces.

The CLS recommended TACBECON® SOG 3000A, with a spray system, to evenly coat the gear with the protecting properties of the grease. TACBECON® SOG 3000A has excellent adhesion to ensure all metal surface areas are well-lubricated. It also has a high ability to resist water washout and corrosion.

TACBECON® SG 1000S was also advised to lubricate the supporting roller bearings at the mixer and pelletizer.

The grease has proven its success by being continuously used in many other bearings at the iron mill. Tecsia Lubricants’ team of experts will continuously monitor the suggested trial period to keep up the effectiveness in line.
